Rogue and Applegate Reports

Postby greg on Sat Jan 08, 2011 6:50 pm

Well we went down with Jon Thursday and went 5 for 8... awesome day on the water with a bunch of bites. Fished applegate Friday and had a couple nice bites... positive that they were trout. Same story for today.

Hit Robertson after fishing the gate Friday and got a couple HARD hits that we couldn't connect on. No jig fish.

I caught my first steelhead in over 10 years, tuesday of this week. Got her on a little cleo 2/5 white and red near touvelle. She was only 5 pounds but tasted good. I ended buying new gear instead of using that big red bulky 1990's abu garcia spinning combo lol.

Im now using a Shimano Symetre, with a 9'6 okuma celilo. have yet to get a fish on the new rod but only tried it once, on thursday. I plan on fishing the upper river this weekend. Any of you gonna be out there? :D

The applegate is a challenge sometimes. Ill give you a hint. We caught fish in the lower river and the upper! =)) Keep at it there will be more fish as the season gets later. :-BD

I think that the applegate steelhead have a higher IQ than the steelhead in other rivers. Thats why they are harder to catch.

Well I finally got a lil sick fishing for trout and fished where it was good yesterday on the applegate. Hooked 2. One dogged me pretty bad. And now I'm sitting upriver of that spot waiting for fish_on to get here. Thinking the fish should've moved upriver a lil bit.

i hate to say this, but the fish on the gate have come and gone. :( sure they will keep trickling in, but with that long period of early high water the main wave came up. everyone says the fish are late this year. i think its just a crappy run. hope im wrong.
