Re: North Umpqua
Well, we did not even wet a line in the North Umpqua. The water was to high to fish the hole I had planned on fishing, so we ventured up river into the fly only section(what a joke). You couldn't fish most of that water with a 50shot slinky, let alone a fly with no added weight, the regs need to be changed on that stretch of river, its the best bank access water on the whole North Umpqua and it doesn't get fished. I don't get it. Some rich fly fisherman has some mighty powerful friends. On a bright note, we got to se lots of new water and several new rivers. I also landed a nice trout, so all was not lost.
Re: North Umpqua
A couple guys i know drifted the N Ump earlier this week i think from Colliding to Whistler. Said they hooked 19 steelhead, mostly downers.

Yea, we heard its been real good up there, its just bank access is very limited on the North, and if the waters up a little it makes it even harder. I guess we could have tried plunking somewhere
Re: North Umpqua
Nice Brown Trout there guys
Well it's probably best to leave those winter steelhead alone this late in the year anyway. They deserve an easy ride back to the salt after what they've been through.
You guys ever fish for shad on the Ump ? I love to fish for shad

Re: North Umpqua
All my shad fishing has been on the Sacramento river from Red Bluff to Chico and some on the Klamath.
I always fly fished for them but i know a small jig under a float would be KILLER
I've heard the Ump can be Awesome for shad.Theyare alot of fun. They don't call em the "Poor mans Tarpon" for nothin.
