Newbie for steelhead.

Postby zsturges225 on Tue Nov 29, 2011 2:52 pm

Hey guys I'm new to the steelhead business, I recently just got out of the marines and came home and found that fishing helped passed the time. I went up to foster dam and the guy next to me fishing hooked into a nice summer steelhead and let me fight her, I've been hooked since that day :x The only problem is I don't know many good rivers to bank fish from I live in Keizer, Or. and don't mind driving a bit just looking for some good rivers to bank fish from. I don't want to know your GLORY holes or secret spots just a few different rivers and a general area to go out and catch some steelies for the first time on my own. I'm going to the Nestucca this friday around the three rivers area if the river looks good. I'll let you guys know how it goes and if the fish are biting. -- Zach.... \M/

The Nestucca is a good river for winter steelhead. I don't know very many good bank spots, but It does have them. I would stop in at Nestucca River Outfitters and I am sure he will point you in the right direction. Right where 3 rivers dumps into the Nestucca is a popular spot, and a good one at that. Hope that helps :) You could also look into the Siletz, the Little Nestucca, and the Alsea.

I've heard good things about all three of those places I'll have to look into them a little more and plan a few more trips. Thanks for the info I'll let you know how friday goes.
