-Heartbreaking day of Summer Steelhead Fishing!-

Postby hollywood on Sun Aug 16, 2009 3:22 pm

Daniel and I got out for about four hours the other day and hooked two fish his was 29 inches and around 8-9 lbs and put up a great fight. There were only a few fish around but we finally figured out what they wanted, ROE, under a float of course!

I got my chance just before we had to leave and I finally got my roe down to the bottom in the funky current. I saw this flash in the hole and looked down as I pulled up and saw a HUGE fish rolling. It came to the surface and showed us how big he really was, it was easily high teens if not into the 20 lb range!! It made two more runs and some more rolling before it ran to the far side of the river and swam straight up river like it wasn't even hooked. I knew I was in trouble because there is a rock shelf that he was on the other side of and I could not get my line above it. Lets just say it doesn't take much for a 20+ lb steelhead to break your 6 lb fluro!! :( It was a sad feeling losing that fish especially since it takes so long to hook a fish like that. It still felt good to fight him for the five minutes it lasted. Here are a few pics of it, hard to tell the size but I thought I would show you guys anyway.
