-Crazy day of Chinook and Coho Fishing!-

Postby hollywood on Tue Sep 15, 2009 12:23 am

Daniel and I were lucky enough to get into some fish after spending two long days pounding the Rogue with only one jack to show for our work! We fished in a Salmon derby put on by http://www.salmontroutandsteelhead.com and had a great time meeting everyone and trying to get into a big Rogue Chinook. It was the slowest fishing since July people were saying and that of course made things difficult but we gave it our best. We decided to fish closer to home where we have a bit of confidence to see if we could redeem ourselves and our beat up confidence with these salmon creatures. :D We fished from about 1:00pm to 7:00pm and hooked over 16 salmon getting 8 to the boat and getting to take home the mythical Chinook Salmon! This was one of the best days of fishing I have ever experienced and will be hard to beat. Lets just say we had doubles four different times, most did not end well and you can imagine we have basically no video to show off because of how crazy it gets with two salmon on and only two people in the boat! Some people never experience a double in their whole life especially with salmon fishing and we had to deal with four!! It was constant work to keep the rods with bait and in the water. All I can say is WOW! Here are a few pictures from the day!

This was Daniels monster Coho that we thought was a Chinook until we got it to the boat! What a hog, it was mid to upper teens and put on a show for us! I should have held it up because the fish always look bigger next to me.

We will be back later this week with a friend so we can have three rods in the water to do some experimentation. Good luck out there!

Very very nice! Way to go guys. Today Reeltech and i floated the Rogue and went 7 for 7 sidedrifting eggs. It was a pretty good day for us, it seemed like most everyone was pulling kwikfish and only heard of one brought in. A few bankies lining were doing ok. Glad you guys had an epic day. Those are why we go even when you hear its not very good. In Alaska i've had many many quads and triples.... ya there is no way to get video of that    Good luck on your next trip over there. Hope it goes as well!!!
