Alsea

Postby archer on Thu Apr 09, 2009 8:41 pm

Well, its official, baring a miracle of Jonah sized proportions, the Alsea is done for the year  Chad and I made one last ditch effort today, I think more just to see the river one more time than any actual hope of getting into a steelhead. Never the less, we had a good time, enjoyed some tasty Halopano corn dogs from John Boys and now can start focusing on our next victim. The only question is what's next? Klamath bows, Umpqua springers, Crescent browns and lake trout, Horton cuthroat, so many fish, so little time. ;)

Sad but a fun day indeed!! I guess if we could fish for winter steelhead all year then we would have nothing to look forward to and they wouldn't be so rewarding when December-March comes!! Until next year, now on to some monster bows, browns, and springers!! :D :D

That's funny!! All in good fun. There are some big trout to be caught in Oregon! Heck iv fished Diamond Lake all my life and it is a blast. Lots of good fishing around before you have to play in the moss for bass  All kidding aside I don't mind fishing for bass, before I moved back to Oregon I pretty much lived on a private bass lake. Had a lot of fun going out at night and throwing top water lures! When I was younger I used to go sneak around and fish at different golf courses at night for some monsters, shhhhh don't tell anyone.

Yea, I must admit. I used to do some smallmouth fishing back east in PA. I fished the Susquehanna river for many years in pursuit of smallies. In the spring I'd catch em on a black and gold floating rapala. They would actually be taking dry flies on the surface, so when I'd see one taking flies I'd just toss the old rapala right on top of it and wham they would smack it right on the surface. It was pretty fun and a technique I'm sure would work at times on the Umpqua or any where there are smallies for that matter.
