2010 Alsea
Chad and I hit the Alsea today for the first time this year. We fished hard all day, for very little results. Chad managed the only nice fish of the day with a 17" native steelhead and a coho. I managed to catch a 15" jack on a cerise and hot pink UV yarn ball and loads of trout. It wasn't the kind of fishing we were hoping for, but it was nice to fish our favorite river once again. On a side note, we heard that the Honeygrove stretch is now posted, so there is going to be even less room for people to spread out. There were a few fish in the hatchery, and we heard of one steelhead caught in the Clemens stretch. We were going to fish the Clemens stretch, but there were 10 cars in the lot when we got there.

Good to hear you guys found a few fish. I almost skipped class today to go fish but didn't. Figure I'll head out on Monday. Bummer to hear about the Honeygrove stretch, that's some decent water. Can't wait to get out in search of some winter steelhead!

I was there too Friday! I could not believe how crowded Clemens was for this time of year and on a Friday! Oh well. I was fishing from the tree farm side so didnt have to deal with the crowds. My buddy lost one small on a yarn ball and saw one other real nice caught. We also got one coho and I hooked up with one really nice nook. Lots of dark fish around clemens like usual this time of year. Steelhead are definately moving in!

Re: 2010 Alsea
We hit the Alsea again yesterday. We fished well, but the steel didn't appreciate our efforts
, well at least not my efforts. Chad did manage a nice chrome buck towards the end of the day that probably went 6lb's or so. While we were fishing a father and son came down and started fishing the same hole we were in. The son had on a white corky and a size 1ot gama and nothing else and wouldn't you know it
, first or second cast, fish on. Go figure. We were pretty excited for him as it was his first hook up ever on a steelhead and it was a dandy. Certianly over 10lb's and chrome as chrome could be. Unfortunately, it got wrapped around a stick and broke the line. I'm sure he will be reliving that one for a while. That was it for us for the day. I know of two fish that were hooked using UV yarn balls that day, but they weren't on our line.We also talked to an employee at the hatchery who told us they got a 40" hatchery fish in the trap on Tuesday.

Yeah i hit the clemens stretch again with a friend and I hooked 3 by 10:30! It was truely an epic morning because when I got there I had a pink and white jig on and tossed it out there and first cast, fish on, a nice little 7 lb buck. Landed another bright hen and one really nice, pushing 15lb buck as well. I havent had excitement like that in a while.
