The step guys counted 200 fish Tuesday and over 250 today!! 99% hatchery fish. Yipeee. River still brown but should clear in a few days. On the way down. Lake Ck is high but fishable now. Greeleaf trap held over 150 fish. Looking good for March.
All those fish are there thanks to the STEP guys and gals from Florence. If you have the mind, give up a couple and coffee's or a pack of smokes or chew and send them a couple of bucks. They gather the eggs, milt them and raise them in the hatchery in Florence for release in Whitaker Ck. or Greenleaf. We owe them a debt of gratitude. Or just write them a note of thanks. If you are up there they work the traps Tuesday and Thursday morning at the Whitaker Ck campground. Shake their hand and say thanks. Hope I don't sound preachy but they are doing a great job. A bunch of old farts like me up to their chest in cold water in a trap full of thrashing steelhead. What a sight.
