Hello, Im new to fishing for steelhead. I'm curious, what color do you use.
I know it depends on water clarity and time of day. Any tips on this subject?
What color to use.

Re: What color to use.
I always fish at least 2 different colors through a hole. I start out with a black and purple jig and then switch to a lighter colored one like pink. Sometimes if you miss a fish on one color you can switch the color or your jig and get them to bite again.

Thanks will give it a try..
Does it matter on what time of day or water clarity?

I haven't found a pattern to time of day/water clarity that could determine what color jig or lure to use. The only thing I've noticed over the last few years is that white and orange work very well at first light and just before dark.

If you are fishing either the North Fork or East Fork of the Lewis the color of choice is pinks. I know on the upper end of the North Fork alot of guys like black or black/purple black/white combos. Also both rivers guys seem to knock em down on pink worms.
Also as archer said at first light and just before dark guys on both rivers do well on the white or orange colors.
I think the Washougal is about the same. Haven't fished it much or talked to many guys that have. It is a river that rises very fast in the winter.
Just my 2 cents. Good luck. Brock
