Postby fish_on on Thu Feb 17, 2011 2:41 am

I was wondering when the upper applegate starts to get good for winter steelhead? I was thinkin about takin a couple days off work to do some fishin up there and would like to get into a fish or two.

Thanks,

Ok thats helpfull. Are you guys running real light line up there? Iusually fish the illinois and do pretty good but the applegate is the one river i cant quite get figured out. I live pretty close to it so i figured it would be good to learn how to catch fish on it.

Thanks,
Patrick

Depending on water conditions I would use 6 lb or 8 lb line most of the time. You can put plenty of pressure on fish with 6 lb and 8 lb. Good luck.

I didnt get anything. There is just somethin about that river that makes it incredibly tough to fish. I think it might be a little early. Ive already caught four on the illinois though so far so you would think that there should be some up on the applegate.
