Siuslaw, lake Creek
Has anyone been fishing the Siuslaw or Lake Creek, I'm wondering how many fish are in the rivers..
Re: Siuslaw, lake Creek
So, I just got off the phone with odfw headquarters and they told me that Lake Creek and The Siuslaw are closed above where they come together, so where the two meet is the deadline, and they said it was due to a lack of fish.
Re: Siuslaw, lake Creek
WOW! At least you can fish up to where they split! Still not quit high enough for where we wanted to fish. Dang

Re: Siuslaw, lake Creek
At least we can still fish the lower hole where I caught that one last year, maybe we'll just have to bobber fish the tide water, they do pretty good doing that some times.
Re: Siuslaw, lake Creek
Well, I fished the Siulsaw yesterday in the monsoon, did not catch a thing, I'll blame it on the water coming up to fast? Lack of fish, Warm water, to much pressure, what ever one is believable, I don't think I like that river,
Re: Siuslaw, lake Creek
Dont worry man.. I got blanked today and the rogue river was dropping pretty good.

Re: Siuslaw, lake Creek
I'm gana give these stupid Oregon Salmon one more chance to eat my bait after that, I'm switching to c4
Re: Siuslaw, lake Creek
Well, another day with no salmon on the siuslaw, although I did hook 3, so, probably my falt this time, I did however catch 2 nice cuthroat, prabably 15in or so
Re: Siuslaw, lake Creek
Just talked to the guys over at 2 bro's tackle in Eugene, they said the coho fishing in Siltcoos lake has been pretty good, most guys using plug cut herring or #4 blue foxes, either casting or trolling the blue foxes. I would have to think that trolling a spoon would also be effective, one of the guys in the shop caught 3 chinook in tidewater using bobber and shrimp cocktail, this rain should really move the fish up river fast.
Re: Siuslaw, lake Creek
well, I'm off to shuretobeskunked river tommorow, hopefully the Lord will send a miracle my way in the way of a 20+lb crome hen chinook
Re: Siuslaw, lake Creek
Thats funny, I'm fishing the same river tomorrow that ends in feather, and it hopefully gives up a few nice steelhead! I would love to catch a 20lb hen the only problem is I seem to do it everytime on this river but I can't keep them!! Stupid closed rivers.

Re: Siuslaw, lake Creek
Well, no miracles today, I think most of the fish have moved up river, and not many fresh ones have replaced them yet.
Re: Siuslaw, lake Creek
One small pikeminnow for me!
I can't wait for winter steelhead, for some reason they seem to be easier to catch, or maybe the river I'm fishing just doesnt have many fish in it. Yeah, I think that must be it.

Re: Siuslaw, lake Creek
About a week left! I will miss the nice weather down here in cali but I would rather freeze my butt off fishing for big winter steelhead than be in shorts fishing for 4lb steelhead here
The salmon fishing down here is pretty good though, I think they like the warm weather and they make it to the net easier, no need for dynamite down here.

Ohh Chad, you can't judge California on it's steelhead just by fishing the valley rivers. . . the coastal rivers are where it happens for winter steelies!

Oh I know there are some Real steelhead rivers in california with big winters the only problem is it would take less time driving to them from Oregon as it does from Nor California!
I know that fish in your avatar came from a california coastal river and its a beauty!

Re: Siuslaw, lake Creek
I talked to a guy at work, he drifted the Lower Siuslaw Sat. he and his buddy got a chromer each, still had sea lice he said,
makes me sad, its all about the right place at the right time
Re: Siuslaw, lake Creek
My friend at work fished the Siuslaw last weekend, hooked one salmon, but didn't land it, and that was it,
Re: Siuslaw, lake Creek
Well, Chad and I both got into a fish today, finally got the new year skunk off our backs few. Chad got a nice 8-9lb buck and I caught a 12lb 14 oz hen, what a hawg. Probably my biggest steelhead so far. The water was low and clear, just the way we like it. We were fishing in the witaker area, we saw a few vehicles and one drift boat, Probable alot of guys are waiting for rain before they start hitting it again, but there are still a few fish around if you know where to look.
Re: Siuslaw, lake Creek
sounds like good times!!! got any photos of your hawg???!!!
i like it low as well, but with only about 3 feet of visability though. thats just me... i hate those fisherman who always wait untill the optimum time to head out. like after a good rain when the water is dropping... man, if you like to fish, get out there and fish!!! like you said, "there's fish there if you know where to look". but then again, them holding out for better water just makes for a more pleasant trip for you and me. who cares if the water isnt prime, we're not trying to feed our starving families here!!!
