Re: Siletz Steel
Spent the day on the Siletz and only had one fish landed. Pure chrome 6/7#, my buddy landed it on spinner he built himself. I tried driftin jigs, rags, eggs, and finally some spinners. Nothin! We were just above the bridge up from Moonshine, Not many people fishin, even though the park itself was chock full of people!Gorgeous little river, cant wait to head back. Gotta feed the addiction some steel!

Very cool river, I've seen it , but never had the opportunity to fish it. Hopefully we will have a chance to get over there this year. I know a guy that grew up near the Siletz, and his go to bait was a night crawler and marshmellow. Then again, his go to bait for everything was a night crawler and marshmellow

I had to laugh when you mentioned "night crawler and marshmallow" in your post. I have a good friend that fishes the middle rogue for steel and that is all he uses or will ever use. The man can fill a fish box like no other.
Side drifting with a couple beads of split shot 24 inches up from his bait. He uses a glass rod with a Mitchell 300 full of 6 lb test fluorocarbon line.
We spend hundreds of dollars on all the fancy stuff? HAHAHAHAHHAAHA He can really make you feel silly at times.

Hambone,
Its true, we spend mega bucks on all the high end equiptment, and the cheap stuff at Walmart catches fish just fine. I guess its like driving a Porsche vs a Honda civic. They both get you to where you are going, but one is much more enjoyable to drive.
