Question about yellow line
I was watching your report on P-Line Hydrofloat and have a question about the "yellow" line. I was at 2bros the other day and seen some of the yellow powerpro yellow braid and you report on the P-Line Hydrofloat. Is the bright yellow line a deterant when fishing in semi-clear water? It seems like this would almost "glow" in the uv spectrum for the fish. I figure this is the place to ask, so i'm asking. "Oh great poo-bah enlighten me!"

Re: Quwstion about yellow line
We have found lines since that review that are better for float fishing. I would recommend the fireline crystal in 10lb. It breaks at over 20lbs and pulls off the water beautifully!
Also the spiderwire invisibriad is another good one. It is very good in the 15lb and is the same diameter as the 10lb fireline above. Both are very good float fishing braids. The powerpro will work fine for float fishing as well and I know John (Reeltech) fishes it with a lot of confidence. The yellow probably wont make a difference in semi clear water but it might in very clear water. Who knows for sure, I use the semi clear white line above and have had really good luck drift and float fishing it in very clear water. Hope this helps.

Re: Quwstion about yellow line
I too tried the hydrofloat. The yellow was not an issue as a 24+ floro leader and well presented jig/bait in gin clear water produced good for me. The problem I had was the float coating tends to nick and split which hung the float up before the stop. It is a great line for the mend but as Mr Hollywood said there are better options. Fished Tuffline XP for a long time, you can pull stumps with it but it soaks up the water fast! I'm going to try the fireline crystal as recommended, sounds like a winner!

Re: Question about yellow line
I have been fishing bright yellow Power Pro for about five years now. I don't think it deters a bite from fish in any water condition. I have fished rivers when they are gin clear and done very well. Sidedrifting, drift fishing, bobber fishing, plug fishing, back bouncing and trolling all with a bright yellow line. If it is just a bobber rod you are getting line for i would reccomend the fireline crystal over all of them. The little bit of memory helps a lot. It definitely floats better than Power Pro. The 14lb or the 10lb are both great choices. The Hydro Float worked pretty good for me about the first five or six times out. Then it started to peel off and had to do a lot of retying. If you do use it, DON'T tighten your bobber stop really tight, just snug. I have however just starting tying an eight foot piece of 15lb mono to the end of my braid to my swivel. The only reason being is the TIP WRAP with customers... it can be frustrating for beginners or novice fisherman

Re: Question about yellow line
Good info there Jon. Tip wrap is the major problem of most braids. The fireline or spiderwire invisibriad have a little bit more body that helps prevent that. Whatever you do don't get the 20lb spiderwire invisibraid. Its way to thick and is crap. Stick with the lightest braid you can get away with again the 10lb spiderwire invisibraid or the 14lb fireline crystal are perfect. They are the same diameter and float great plus you can pull line of the water from far distances.

Re: Question about yellow line
i used to use braid on everything. now all i have it on is my jig rods. i just like the forgiveness of mono. my hook up to landing ratio has gone up also. believe it or not stretch is a good thing. back to the question, yellow line. i've tied yellow power pro straight to 24" leaders and caught fish in clear conditions. it's what ever you are comfortable with.

Re: Question about yellow line
You definitely have to adjust when switching to braid. There is a lot less stretch but I always used braid so its normal for me. The great thing about it is you don't have to pull up much to get a good hook set. When using mono you have to swing like a bass-master!

Re: Question about yellow line
Chad...
Atleast I caught some legal that I was able to keep. It cut great and Im sure my grandmother will enjoy... I got out and spent some time throwing jigs and bait... Hooked one, seen others hook up. Im happy. I had to tag it even tho it was an inch past 16inches... Do I care? No, because that spot wouldve gone unfilled! Theres no way Im gonna tag 20 salmon in a year! Never came close!
All that matters to me is that Im improving. I got out. And that my grandmother will be happy with some fish! Geesh.
