Plunking!?

Postby Bailey on Sun Jan 16, 2011 12:59 pm

Well, my uncle lives on the applegate and has a few nice holes to fish, and a couple good riffles also! I work there all the time, and if I cannot always be down at the water, what do you guys think about getting a rod holder and just plunking? I would be able to monitor the rod, just couldnt spend all my time down there, and that is why I am considering plunking. I was thinking a 4-6 oz weight, and a few feet up run a 3 way swivel with either a small quick fish, a hot shot, or a spin-n-glo off of that. What do you guys think? Would it be worth it? What color plugs or spin-n-glos would be best to use? Or is there something else that would work?

Thanks!

I think 4-6 oz would be a little to much for plunking the applegate. I've heard that chartruse spin n glo is the way to go for plunking.

Isn't that illegal, though? I thought that the rod as to be attended to at all times. I might be wrong, of course.

Does it really matter how heavy the weight is? Once I plunked a cannon ball into the river since I had nothing else, the line would go through the slider and an hour later I pull it out and there was a silver on it! Already dead, he took the row! Problem was, I could hardly pull the darn weight back on the bank! Well, cannon ball is a bit of hyperbole, but it was way too heavier than I needed.

You do have to stay near your rod at all times. The only issue I would have with the large weight would be the lack of fight you would have once you hooked a fish.

Absolutely agree. There was no fish play. I was just curious what would happen. Something like that is probably used by poachers, I assume. I was legal though.
