my color recommendations to add would be shrimp pink and dark roe.(glow bug yarn) i use those two colors 99% of the time. usually in combo. i'm not a big believer in uv products. i thinks it's just a gimmick to sell product. i'll give this yarn a try though, maybe it will make a difference. will see.

i think i see elvis in those yarn strands. =)) =)) =))

Its hard to tell but the bottom left is very close to shrimp pink when I compared it to harelines version of shrimp pink. If its not perfectly shrimp pink we can make it. :D I will look into the dark roe color.

Yep. Its on coburg rd heading towards the McKenzie River. You can take beltline west, get off at coburd rd and take a right. Go past the costco and keep going for about a mile and a half. Its on the right. Let me know when you are going to be in the shop and I will come by.

that's weird. most of the time i meet the customer in coburg, at the shell station. if my wife is with me i'll take coburg into eugene. i've never seen that store, guess i'm not paying attention. i never pass up a good tackle shop. i'm guessing around 10:30 thursday morning.

If you are coming from the town of Coburg you head towards Eugene on coburg rd and go past the McKenzie. It will be on the left. Its a big corner lot and the shop is just off the road in the back. There should be some drift boats out front. He has a lot of nice gear and specialty stuff that others done normally carry.

This is a post from another site in response to people saying there was no research to prove fish see UV. A little reading on the subject of UV from a very informed Biologist.

"There is overwhelming evidence that all spiecies of salmonids see and use UV at ALL stages of thier life cycle, that is to say before, during, and after smoltification.
UV Research

And in multiple spiecies of salmon : Multiple Species UV

These articles not only show that UV is a life long sight process, that it is intended for finding food...oops forgot that link (SpringerLink ) and that it intensifies as they reach maturity starting when they move into less than 40 ft of water. It is an effective way to catch multiple spiecies of fish. As for the coment from your biologist friends about not seeing UV, perhaps it is time they go back to school for a tune up. New reasearch into salmonids comes out of Canada almost weekly, perhaps they might learn something and our runs will strengthen once again."

Hope this sheds some light on the subject. All of our products (Jigs, Yarn) work great all by themselves. The UV is added to enhance an already high quality product! We use everything we sell becuase we believe that it is the best that we can use. A lot of this stuff we used a long time before it was every for sale here. First and foremost I want to catch fish just like everyone else and I will use the best technique, method and bait/lure to get it done. :-BD

chad, i'm not bashing your products. i've read all the articles and i've used a ton of uv products, mainly in gold beach. a place where you would think that uv products would shine. believe me they don't.(out shine anything else) i don't care what a fish sees, if they don't bite what i'm throwing i'm not throwing it. that's my science. i'm still going to buy some of your yarn tomarrow. i've never tried uv on steelhead. never felt like i needed an edge. you know me, i'll let you know how it works.

Oh for sure! I wasn't really talking about you, this was from another forum and some fisherman with very little experience at all. I just thought I would put it up here for people to read. I hate when people who can't even catch a steelhead or salmon judge something when they have no idea what they are talking about. Thats why I like it here, very good fisherman with LOTS of experience! ;) Ill come over to the shop around 10:30 tomorrow. I want to tell you some more about the yarn as well as some other stuff we are working on with it.

Hey Chad, still the biggest rookie on this forum, and probably the only guy on here trying to catch his first steelhead as well! Catching some decent Dolly's and rainbows, but haven't hooked up with the ultimate prize yet....So far your tutorial videos have been a great help, any way you could do one for tying yarn balls? Going to order some of your yarn soon and want to try it out... I've been putting your micro jigs through a good workout on the Skykomish, and I'll let you guys know when I finally get into some fish.

Oh its ready to go. :D The last batch went out to a lot of guides and other people who are doing some testing for us. This next batch will be available for sale! :-BD It should be online this weekend or early next week. Here is a pictures of the color oregon cheese with a blood dot!

Image

Also here are two images from the same yarnball using a new technique that I have been messing around with. With how soft this yarn is you can combine multiple colors and mesh them together creating some amaing contrasting colors. Its hard to see from these pictures but the light pink and hot pink are woven together. You can see it better in the second pictures under the 365nm UV light.

Pretty cool stuff! Everyone here will know first when the yarn is available online. \M/

Chad, when you tie your yarnies do you wrap the yarn in the last few wraps of your egg loop knot? I have seen a ways, and that was one I saw on that show hawg quest and have adapted it into my fish lure making arsenal. I used to just tie the yarn to shank then sinch it down with the egg loop and trim it up, but by not tieing the yarn to the hook shank they look very similar to yours, thats why I was curious. And the knot affected the puffiness of the ball. Not that the new technique has caught any yet, but have only used it a couple times, I've never had much luck for summer fish on yarn balls.

From what I hear yarnballs are killer on the McKenzie in the fall! They are starting to key in on eggs and I have heard guys do really well on them. I am in the process of making a video showing how I tie them up. Pretty simple actually. There is a egg loop you can tie that has an extra loop in it to attach the yarn. I will post here when I get it finished. They seem to turn out pretty good this way.

NIce. I was talking with our fish bio at work today and he was actually showing me how he makes a loop at the beginning of the knot tieing process then uses that loop to then pull tight with the yarn ball. I think he was saying he uses that sticky spider wire stuff to hold the ball together. I suppose the loop being tight would hold the yarn in as well too.
