Lower Mckenzie Steelhead

Postby jsheava on Tue Feb 22, 2011 11:25 am

My buddy called me bout 4:30 yesterday afternoon all excited about this. He was throwing a little cleo silver spoon with his 7ft trout rod that has 4lb line on it. He thought he was snagged, kinda lifted and pulled the rod up, then felt the head shake..........

Awesome! that actually looks like its still in good shape too! Where on the mac? Leaburg hatchery? I heard there are still summers being caught there....? Was actually thinking about going out there in the next couple of days and finding out for myself.

Nice fish! I've been trying the Mac up and down for quite a while with no luck. Looks like I may have to give it another shot.

You might want to wait till late May when some fresh fish will start showing up.

Ummm sweet you caught a summer, but BranMan that is most definately not in good shape. You see how skinny she is? She's burned all the fat reserves and already burning muscle. Those spawned out summer fish can get pretty skinny on their way back to the ocean. Its almost march so like Daniel said just wait 2 months and fresh chromers will be on their way again. Hopefully with a good run of springers again too!
