Lonnie Bird Memorial Drift OFF

Postby JSpencer on Thu Nov 19, 2009 8:03 am

I know a lot of people here on these forums are on OFF as well, and i hope im not stepping on toes by tossing this up here, if i am i am sorry.

Lonnie Bird Memorial Drift OFF
Dec. 12th, 6:30 AM - 3 PM
Wilson River

This is a fishing benefit hosted by Autofisher from the Oregon Fishing Forums. There will be some prizes, coffee, coco, and hopefully some good fishing. As i said this is a benefit, any donations/proceeds from this will go directly to ADA (American Diabetes Association). Provided I am not stepping on toes, I will have more information for everybody as it becomes available, such as a defined meeting place along the river and whatnot. Lets help fuel research and awareness for Diabetes in a way we all enjoy, Fishing with friends and family.

There's how to get to the original post on the OFF Forums for this Memorial. There's going to be a lot of really cool prizes being raffled off, and a good deal of it looks to be homemade tackle, spinners, jigs, yarn so on and so forth. There will also be some gift cards to various sporting goods stores.

There is a rest area right next to the Jones Creek Campground. I think it's at like mile marker 23. When you pull off Hwy. 6 to go to Jones Creek instead of going over the bridge take a right and there's restrooms and parking. This was originally posted by Beaverfan and has become the official meeting spot for this. So at 6:30 AM we're all meeting there (any of you who dont know highway 6 i advise to leave early and give yourself plenty of time, the road is very scary to drive when its dark and wet), after we break up and head to our fishing spots and fish until probably 1 or 2 then head to the Pizza shop in Banks (you will pass through banks on the way to the meeting spot anyways.)

Looking forward to meeting up with all the fine anglers that wish to attend this event.

Quick update from Autofisher himself, copied and pasted from the OFF forums.

Ok so we're about two weeks away from the whole thing and I thought I'd let you all know exactly what's going on. That way there's no screw ups.

Saturday December 12th, 6:30am at the Jones Creek Rest area (I'll be there a little earlier) At the rest area we will have a small meeting where we'll go over everything that I'm about to leave out.

We will be having the drift off. If you guys want. I have a dispenser full of every color of yarn that I have. Even some you guys don't know about yet. I'll cut you off a section of yarn (your choice of two colors) You and your partner(s) will fish in a small drift off competition. First fish gets choice of one yarn and dispenser. Biggest fish gets choice of two yarns and dispensers. And the team (of two) with the most fish banked, gets choice of three colors and dispensers. The rules are simple, pictures. Keep it honest, keep it simple. Take pictures with the digital camera (time date stamp) for the first fish and biggest fish. Pictures will also be needed for the most banked fish. All fish must be fair caught in the mouth. The actual competition will be from about 7:30 am to about 2 pm. All participants must agree that the pictures that they use may be used on the Pop-A-Top Website. There will probably be more stuff later so we'll keep you informed if anything changes.

As for the rest of it. You don't have to do the Yarn Drift OFF if you don't want to. This whole thing is about raising money for the American Diabetes Association. It's about raising awareness and fighting the fight for those who can't or won't be able to anymore. Honestly, this is my way of dealing with my father-in-laws death. It's my way of giving back to a man that gave to me when I needed it. We will be selling raffle tickets through out the day for prizes that have been donated to us by members and local vendors. We will have a list of prizes that have already been anounced up here shortly. The raffle will be held at Main Street Pizza in Banks where we have reserved pretty much the whole place for us. The tickets for the raffle will be $2 for the smaller prizes ($40 and below) and $5 for the larger prizes (more than $40). There is no limit to how many tickets one person can buy. Like I've said before, if someone walks up and buys the entire roll of tickets..... I'm not gonna tell them no. I know that the holidays are right around the corner and money's going to be a little tight... We're not expecting millions (but it'd be nice). Again, if anything changes, we will let you know.

We are trying to get coffee and donuts for the morning, but when we get to the pizza place we're all going to have to chip in for some grub. And you'll have to buy your own drinks.

If you guys have any questions feel free to PM me. I'll let you know if Something changes. There's still two weeks and a lot of things that are going to happen. I can never express enough gratitude to all who have helped and will be helping. This is awesome. Thank you all.
