Lake Creek 1/19

Postby radiation on Wed Jan 20, 2010 7:44 pm

Headed to Lake Creek yesterday to catch that first steelhead. Got there about 8:15. Started at the boat ramp by Green Creek and started working my way down, stopping at every spot that looked promising. Worked my way down to Swiss Home and back up again. I used everything in my arsenal, but to no avail! :( The only thing I caught was this little thing. I have been trying to figure out what it is. It had the color and marking of a german brown but they aren't down here. The picture doesn't show but it had a brown tint with black spots. No, it wasn't a rainbow, cutthroat, salmon, brooky or anything I could tell. It was a native so I threw it back.
I talked to a couple of seasoned veterans.(old timers) in a drift boat that said they had a couple on and lost them. And I heared that someone from that first boat ramp caught a decent sized one. Other than that, everyone said they didn't have any luck. The water was pretty clear and not very high. The weather was suprisingly nice. I got by with a sweatshirt for the day and had to put on my sunglasses for awhile.

i'm going to take a wild guess and say it might be a cutbow. we get them down on the rogue. cut throat have a ton more spots and the orange cut on the throat(obviously). cutbows don't have the orange on the throat. but they still have orange on the tips of the lower fins and more spots. the fish in the picture looks like it has some orange on the lower fins, but not alot of spots. it also looks like a salmon smolt. i don't know, someone else give it a shot. it's a good thing you let it go!

no i don't son. we were talking about what kind of fish was in the picture, and chad said something about how you can't catch a winter steelhead. so how does summer steelhed and the chetco relate? that's all. regarding that that p.m. you sent me with all the foul language(pottie mouth) i sold that piece of junk fish-rite for what i was asking. buy the way, a fish-rite is always going to bring more money than a koffler. that's just the way it is son. god bless and have a great day. Boy, it sounds like someone on this thread could use a group hug. :D I showed the full sized picture to some people I work with and I was informed that it was a small Chinook. I was thrown by how brown it was colored and the white gums. The flash on the camera washed out the pic. to make it look the right color.

Chetco and winters came up because my only winter so far has been on the chetco.

And that message was because I had a pretty bummed night and saw what you said... So I apologize.

((((((((dan)))))))))

There's your hug dan.

it's all good greg. i know you get a lot of razzing, but that's part of being a rookie. ask reeltech. by no means is he a rookie to fishing, he's a great stick, but he does get hammered by us. he's a good sport. right jingles? :ymparty: by the way, i like the new smiles chad. :D

i think we should all get together in mid-february, on the rogue in 3 or 4 drift boats and have a good ol time. :ymparty: won't be fishing again this weekend , i'm delivering a 22' raptor to portland for willie boats. i'm booked next weekend also. but after that it's the peek of the season, so lets get it on. :-BD

Oh, I was excited. Would've been a great learning experience. I had just woke up and got online so that's probably why I didn't sound too excited.

Well guess I'll sit at home on saturday. Lol

good luck guys and thanks for the invite.

Sounds good Jon! I will talk to Daniel when we are out tomorrow and get back to you. Oh, wait, I meant to say "whatever, I guess we could make some time to fish with you". =)) =)) Poor Greg.

Do you guys think there are a few fish in the lower Applegate yet? Might have to spend an extra day and fish it.

FYI greg. if toybox offers you a ride take it. you won't have to row all day. i can row with the best of them, and he won't even let me row.(im' not complaining jon :D ) if you are in my boat, after 3 or 4 holes or you miss a bite you're on the sticks now. we call it the penalty box.

I did. I said yea if course! I was planning on bringing some gas money and some other stuff for him and then I log on and this. I never said anything like I guess I can squeeze em in. Got a question for all of you. Why would I not be excited and accept an open seat from Jon when I get to fish with the mouse master especially after I've been asking for help? Lol
