"Hot Sauce"

Postby A D Dbobberslob92wtf on Wed Sep 29, 2010 7:04 pm

Hope everyone is catch'n these days. I have just purchased some Quantum Hot Sauce oil and grease. All my levelwinds
have corbontex drags and when I put them in I went dry, no grease. They worked great with only the slightest rubbing noise when fighting a fish.
It's rebuild time and my question is, grease them for even a smoother drag? Stay dry? If grease, how little? The reals are Abu 5500's and Calcutta's.
Thanks for any help! :D

Hey Buddy,

Those carbontex drags are truly the best drags made for the Abu's. Glad they started making them. They are just like the tried and true HT100 drags that Penn has been using forever.
That rubbing noise you hear is just the drags working. They work great dry, but for the best drag you will ever feel, grease them. You cant use any old grease though. You need grease made for drags. The shimano drag grease (white in color) is the best out there as far as I am concerned and you can call them and they should be able to send you a little container of it if you ask.
You DO NOT want to overgrease them, just put a dab on your finger and wipe it over both sides of the carbontex washer so it gets shiny with grease. You dont want to cake the white grease on it, it will squeeze out of the main gear and cause problems with your anti reverse bearing. A little goes a long way, so just cover the washer on both sides with the grease and install each one as you normally would. You do not need to put the grease on the metal washers, what is on the carbontex is good enough.
This system is BUTTER smooth and WONDERFUL!! You will be VERY happy with it.

Any other questions regarding reels, feel free to ask, I have been fixing/repairing/rebuilding all types for over 20 years now. I would be glad to answer any questions you have!

Good fishing!
