Fishing Rouge and Applegate for a week.. Spots?

Postby Madtoonage on Sat Mar 21, 2009 2:31 pm

Hey guys... I am going to be around the Grants Pass area for the next week. Do you guys know where fish are being caught on the Rouge and Applegate rivers? I grew up around Grants Pass/Applegate but just never did a lot of Steelheading, so i know the names and geography well if you have specific spots you want to mention. Keep in mind i will be fishing from the bank. I hear lots of people are in town right now, we should all meet up for some fishing or just fish storying.

:!: Places i am thinking of going:

 Rouge River- Graves creek landing, pedestrian bridge downstream of GP, upstream from Baker park and just below savage rapids dam.

 Applegate River- Turtle Ln wilderville, fish hatchery bridge, the turnout before Applegate store and the bridge before ruch.

Any tips on new spots would be awesome, or even tips on the fact that some of the spots i chose are bunk.

Thanks guys, i will keep you posted on my success or failure in the next week or so. Lets try to track us down some steelies!!! :D

Those are all great spots and you can also check out the very upper part of the river around the deadline. There might be a few up there. I would focus in the lower river though because the last day we were out I saw two roll in front of me and I landed a small native that was as bright as a dime!! Good luck!!

Hmm... Well lets just say it has been a tough week. Fished 2 days on the Applegate. From Murphy all the way up to the dam... skunked both days. Couldn't sleep last night so i got up at 5 and walked down to the Rouge, right by the sports park... Nada. Went out for an early float up above the town of Rouge River this morning. Caught a pretty little native pounder back bouncing some roe. I would feel even worse but at least everyone im going with cant hook up as well... ha not that i really care, i just want to see some chrome! Welp, im going to try to scrap up my dignity and try to go out again before the seasons over. You guys fish for spring kings on the rouge? Any more productive? Maybe i should just stick with Shad :o ... joking guys, just a joke.
