Hi everone! I'm an old newbie but have steelhead fished for most of my life (70). Guided on lots of rivers for salmon, trout and steelhead. I now have retired and moved to the Siuslaw River and live in Mapleton. I want to thank the forum contributors and the administrator for a wealth of information on float fishing. I started my steelheading on the Pilchuck, Stilly, and Sky when I was a kid. Got a Pfleuger Supreme baitcasting reel Christmas 1955. Just won one on ebay and used it yesterday. Still a fantastic reel!! I ordered a 10' 6" noodle rod for float fishing. All this by way of asking: what size Crystal Float is best for our river when it is running between 5-9 ft? I guessed the 4" 1/4 oz. size. And I will order some of the next bigger also for Chinook. Thanks in advance for the help.
Siuslaw is running about 6 ft. and very beautiful color. I'll by flyfishing with indicator and jigs soon. (Indicators are really bobbers but snobby flyanglers sometime don't like to admit that) The river is fishing well right now but getting pretty low and clear. I run a tupperware boat (Lavro) so I can still bounce down the upper river pretty easily. We hooked three, landed two clip fins day before yesterday. Nice bright fish. Roe and bobber for two and one on hotshot.
Good to be on board. Hope this post is not too lengthy. I just get excited talking about steelheading. Mike

Re: crystal fishing floats
Great to have you in our community!! Your on a fun little river for sure. I assume you fish the upper river for steelhead mostly? I would use the 4" 1/4 oz. size for when the water is at a nice flow like now. I really like the (Crystal Chubby) 4 1/4" 1/2 Oz for when the water is up a little bit and you need at add more weight to get it down quick. Float fishing is a very good way to fish the water on the siusilaw and the little micro jigs we have on the website have caught many fish there!! Thanks again for joining and look forward to hearing reports of how you are doing.

Nice to meet ya Mike. Its good to hear of some fish being caught. The crystal chubby is an excellent choice. It moves through the water very nice. I'm sure you would not be dissapointed with them. Good luck out there.
