Have not heard from him yet.

I thought I saw you fishing off the bridge this summer Greg, sitting back with a lawn chair and a 12 oz sinker!

Greg anyone could have mistaken you fishing the wrong side. You haven't caught an adult steelhead in a couple of years and you say you go all of the time :wtf: :wtf:   I think the best spot at tussing is toward the lower end on river left with a deep back eddy along the ledges. I've caught LOTS of fish there!!! You may have the correct gear now, but evidentally you need to use it correctly    Anytime you want to learn just let me know....Many of us can show you a couple places and how to fish them. Poor greg....usually the barrel is in the boat...now its on here

You guys are just shooting a dead horse now. haha. I don't have a boat like all you guys. I don't have the luxury of driving. And I don't live where you guys would call a great winter steelhead area, EVEN though the fish have to go through this area. I have a dad who doesn't have much interest in steelhead fishing anymore... so its rare to have him go fishing. When I go out fishing most of the time its places where the fish wouldn't hold because I can't get down below the pedestrian bridge without waders. SO! If you guys have some common sense suggestions, please speak up and stop shooting the dead horse!

I shot a dead horse once. It was in Parker AZ during a dove hunt.......118 degrees or so. I had decided to take the .22 and kick the brush for some rabbits to pass time in the afternoon. Came across this guy in the desert, dont know how long it had been dead for, but it looked like a horse shaped hot air balloon, all bloated up, legs sticking up in the air. Being the curious young lad I was, I hit once in the belly with a .22 ......why, because it was there I guess.....figured I help the turkey vultures get to the goods easier
There was a geyser of not so sweet smelling fluid coming out of that hole for quite a while.
Anyways......you brought it up Greg     Thanks for bringing up a fond memory of my younger days ;)

What.......last time I checked.....Chad, Daniel, Jon, George, ...........and........wait........just checked......myselft too only have 2 feet. I bet those 2 feet would be willing to take you wherever your passion and desire wants to go. A bicycle is a wonderful tool, even rigged rod holders on mine when I was younger. I guess what Im trying to say is we cant relate to the reasons you are giving. Where there is a WILL there is a WAY.
I thought your Dad liked to fish......I know I enjoy spending time fishing with my Dad. Time well spent Buddy ;) Why doesnt he like to fish any more?? Use your enthusiasm to get him excited about it again ;)

Oh I've tried John. Alot. I guess the quest for steelhead doesnt give him butterflies anymore.

I wanna see you and chad come fish with me. Where we can access without waders around tussing and see how we do. Im thinking, neither of you can pull a fish in.

hey special greg, i don't think they're beating a dead horse, i think they're beating on you. but keep it up . it's quite entertaining. by the way, that picture of the smolt you posted awhile back. delete that damn thing. that's embarrassing. i'm surprised the mods haven't deleted it yet. reeltech, i think they wrote a song about a horse in the desert with no name, it felt good to get out of the rain. something like that. cheers

Don't you know, all good fisherman have photoshop

Gregg - Just follow the steps in your jig fishing article and get to it. Daypack + feet + tackle + good bait + rods + general knowledge + effort = fish!!!! Maybe this means fishing less often so that you can fish more productive water. When you finally get there fish HARD. Fishing is fun, but once you stop paying attention your success drops away. In reality a person only needs to know a handfull of spots well: that is what time of year to fish it. . .how to fish it. . .where the fish lay. . .the optimum CFS. . .etc. Once you get this down you can begin to expect to hook up on each trip. And if your not, make sure your bobber stops not on its straw still  All joking aside there are some cheap, easy, things to remember: start an in depth fishing journal and don't slack off about it!, stay focused, fish HARD--for summer run I usually expect to fish first-last light. . .out the door by 2:30 am, and back at 10pm. . .maybe I'm crazy--fish less often in order to fish better areas. None of these cost money except for a small joural.

Oh. . .please don't stop the back and fourth it has been quite entertaining.

Nothing again today... Love the smooth reel. Left cause we were drenched with rain. Went to a spot on the rogue and on the way down to the spot... Fell and broke my new reel! :-x :-x :-x :-x :-x :-x :-x Hurt my back a lil, knee, ankle, and wrist also. So now I have to order a new handle and washer for it.

Nothin for the rogue. Heard one guide had a couple  and another boat hadnt had a bite. Sooo I don't know.

All I know is that im F'in sore. I can wait for the next time.

I see most of you are talking about fishing the lower part of the river near GP. Does anyone fish near McKee bridge ? And what pound of braid to you recommend for the applegate and upper rogue.
Check out my blog http://oregonshane.wordpress.com Picture Heavy :D

i like power-pro in #20-8 diameter for jig fishing. i like the way flows off my guides. i've tried fire line, but it's to stiff and grabby for me. i know people that like it though. for 20 years i've lived 15mins. from the applegate, and only fished it once or twice. shame on me. there's some guys on here that fish the upper applegate that will fill you in. good luck

I just read the article about braid and how strong it is. It looks like the fireline 20 lb breaks at over 50 lbs!! I use 10 lb fireline crystal and love it. The stiff feeling you are talking about is kind of a coating that wears off in a few weeks and the line gets to be more supple. Part of the reason they made the line a little bit stiffer is because of tip wrap problems that many of the other braids have because they are to soft. I spooled up with some spiderwire invisibraid and really like it so far. It is rounder, smoother and once my line hits the water my float is at the bobber stop in less than a second. So far so good. I have the powerpro on my salmon rod and it is good as well. I think there is no reason to use more than 10 lb or 15 lb at the most because of its incredibly high breaking strength.

Dew, Its 6lb diameter, bro.

Power pro 20lb which is 6lb diameter in Hi-vis. Easy to pick up and easy to track.

I fish the 15# power pro on my heavier jig rod, 10# on my lighter jig rod. The strength thing is crazy. Im almost thinking of going down even lighter on both, perhaps 8# on the lighter one and 10# on the heavier one......who knows??? Love the way the lighter stuff flies off the reel with a slight toss. Plenty strong, so why not???
Just have to be more mindful of the tip wraps, but that comes standard with fishing braid anyway!!! ;)

That's the nice thing about the fireline and spiderwire invisibraid. It has a little more body to it and I rarely have tip wrap. :D I do have a problem with my recoil tip not letting go of the line sometimes.
