Good evening everyone,
I came across this page earlier in the year but for some reason I only decided to join yesterday. I'm from Ontario, Canada and do the majority of my fishing on the tribs. of Lake Ontario and Erie. I witnessed the fall spawn run by accident last fall and ever since have been hooked on trout fishing. This has been my first year of full time fishing and although slow in the beginning I'm starting to make great progress on the water. It would not have been possible without all the wealth of information found on this page and others here in Canada. I do however find this page amazing! I hope to learn as much as I can from all of you and finally land my first quality steelhead this winter. I`m most interested in mastering the float/drift fishing.
Take care and happy hunting,
Matt

Re: New to the Forum
Hi All:
Just joined the forum.
I am a Contractor in California.
I have allot of time on my hands this year. If you know what I mean.
New to Steelhead and Salmon Fishing.
I fish the Vina Woodson Bridge area of the Sacramento River in Northern California.
I am 62 years old this year!
I stream fished allot when younger but my knees got bad and I had to give it up.
I bought a Jetcraft river boat this year but I have not had much luck fishing from it.
Fishing from a boat is allot different than wading down a stream or from the bank.
Salmon fishing starts November 16, 2009 and I ordered some Drennam floats and Salmon Jigs from Chad.
I hope to do a little better .

Welcome to the site, sorry to hear you can't pound the streams any more. I am sure you will figure out the boat fishing in no time. Chad and one of his friends Danny did a video on salmon fishing the Sacramento river last year, might be worth a look. They were using sardine wrapped kwick fish.
Re: New to the Forum
We did fish the Sac right around where you are talking about! We trolled kwikfish up and down the river and pretty good success. Others were anchoring up and fishing kwiks as well. You could throw big spinners in that area of the sac.

I also have a custom rod building shop and rod repair, I am in the process of building a 10' 7 wt for the steelhead and salmon, but am having trouble deciding on a reel . any help would be greatlu appreciated. My first trip up north will be shore fishing, any places recomened would be welcomed. Is there any of the rivers that I can float in my kayak and easly paddle back to the place of entery?

Welcome to the site. Most of the steelhead rivers in Oregon have a pretty steep grade to them so I don't think paddling back to the launch point is very realistic. However there are shuttle services on most rivers, so geting a ride back to the car isn't to hard. As far as a reel goes, I am not a fly guy so I won't be any help, but I am sure someone on hear is. Good luck.

Welcome guys........this is the place to be if watching a float sink under the surface gets your rocks off. Chad and Daniel do a heck of a job with this site and make some phenomenal and unique steelhead jigs. Lots of float fishermen on this site that are willing to share info, you will like it here!!!
Make sure you watch their videos, great entertainment when the rivers are blown out
