Help! Going fishing in Sunriver

Postby startrekkin1 on Sat Aug 22, 2009 8:48 am

First time post on an awesome site!

I am going to Sunriver on Sept. 12 for a week and have several question:
1) Where do i find some great fly fishing and what flies work best there?
2) What lures work best for steelhead in the Sunriver area and where to go?
3) What lures work best for brown trout and again best places to fish for them?
4) Any other fishing tips would help.

On a scale of 1 to 10:
Best day working - 1
Worst day fishing - 11

Thanks,

Lee

Just called the B-Law, lives in Bend and is an avid fly guy. The Fall River, Upper section of the Deschutes. For for fly patterns dark wooly boogers, maybe a few muddlers patterns, hoopers and few misc. dries. If you want to travel, Metolius offers a very challenging fishery. The Fall and Metolius are fly only. The Deschutes at Sunriver is a free for all, bait, spoons, spinner etc. Hope this helps.

There are no steelhead in the Sunriver area of the Deschutes only brown trout and rainbow trout. Most of the fish in that stretch are brown trout though and some are very big! We just got back from the Deschutes river and will have a video online in a few days showing some very nice brown trout! You can fish for them with spinners, rapalas and night-crawlers.
